Biography

Dr. Lana Rose Potts MD CCFP is a family physician at the Siksika Health and Wellness Centre. Siksika is a First Nation near Calgary. Dr. Potts is a charter class graduate of The Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay, Ontario and she also completed a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Nursing from the University of Alberta. Lana completed her residency training in Indigenous Family Medicine at UBC. Lana is a member of the Piikani Nation. She is married to Robert Benjoe and she is the proud mother to her daughter Annataki and son, Nodin.

Dr. Potts has advocated in many ways on behalf of Indigenous/rural health. She has utilized her academic experience in a variety of roles including research on Indian Residential School’s and Tuberculosis. She sat on the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada board for three terms, advocating for the improvement of Indigenous health. Throughout medical school she worked as a liaison with various boards on how improve health care delivery in First Nation and Rural communities.

Currently she is member of the Aboriginal Wisdom Council, a provincial board that advises on improving health outcomes in Indigenous communities. Dr. Potts often addresses groups on all matters related to health, children’s health, recreation and social services of Indigenous people and First Nations across Canada.
